Te Teko teen prepares to represent North Island Volleyball

16 year old Jaryn Rutene of Te Teko is making his mark in New Zealand Volleyball and spent the weekend training intensely for the Under 17 Men's North Island Volleyball camp.

Focus and practise are the core emphasis for the talented Ngāti Awa teenager who is in full preparation mode for the Australia Young Championship Competition set to kick off in August.

Jaryn says, “I was quite surprised when I made the team, a boy from Te Teko it was kind of cool.”

Fitness and refining the basic necessities on the Volleyball court are what the training sessions are sharpening at the moment and Jaryn says he is looking forward to representing New Zealand in Australia.

The teen has proven to be not only a great talent on the court but has established himself as a great role model for his fellow students at Whakatane High School

Next year his goal will be to represent his country in the Under 18’s team but says his main focus at the moment is making sure he does a good job for the U 17 North Island reps.
