Thousands converge at Tūrangawaewae Marae for Royal Visit

Thousands of people have converged at Tūrangawaewae Marae to await the arrival of the Prince of Wales and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall.

A huge entourage is preparing to conduct the pōhiri for Prince Charles and Lady Camilla who are expected to arrive at the Marae just before midday.

Māori Television is broadcasting exclusive live coverage of the event which is hosted by Matai Smith.

The broadcast can be viewed on television and at www.maoritelevision.com.

Following the pōhiri a number of kaumatua will address the Royal couple and Prince Charles is expected to deliver a speech to the gathering just before 12:30.

The exclusive coverage will include a historical look back at the visits the Royal family has paid to New Zealand and the significance of this event for the Kingitanga.

Rāhui Papa says “this is another stepping stone in a long relationship between the Kingitanga and the House of Windsor.”
