Thousands expected to attend public memorial service for Jonah Lomu

Thousands are expected to turn out to Eden Park today, where a public memorial service will be held for rugby legend, Jonah Lomu.

The service is open to the public and will begin at 1pm, however, those who wish to attend are asked to be seated by 12.45pm.

This is the third public memorial service to remember the life of one of the world's greatest rugby players and will be led by broadcaster, John Campbell.

Jonah Lomu died nearly two weeks ago soon after returning home from an overseas trip.

Ardijah, Lizzie Marvelly, and Adeaze will perform, and it is believed that representatives from international rugby unions will attend today's occasion.

On Saturday, the people of south Auckland gathered to remember and celebrate the life of Jonah Lomu at what was known as the Te Aho Faka Famili ceremony. In a blend of cultural protocols, Māori and Pacific communities played various roles to help uplift the family in the time of grief.

Te Kāea will have more on this tonight at 5:30pm.
