'Tick for Kids' to give Kiwi kids political voice

'Tick For Kids' gives children like these Grey Lynn students the opportunity to question our politicians and keep them honest.

Green Party Co-Leader Metiria Turei says, "We need political advocacy for children to hold political parties to account, under John Key there are 45,000 more children living in poverty than before he became Prime Minister."

'Tick For Kids' is a platform for groups like Mana Ririki who advocate for children and provide a Māori-led response to Māori child abuse, say child advocacy groups.

Every year, 60 babies under the age of one die from conditions linked to socio-economic status.

Anton Blank from Te Kāhui Mana Ririki says, "Despite a lot of debate over the last 10 years, we're only seeing very small changes."

That's why Mr Blank says it's important to discuss and debate issues and policy solutions for our kids.

Former Children's Commissioner, Dr Ian Hassell says, "Every Child Counts ... was set up in 2004 before the 2005 Election with the same idea of just raising the profile and status of children's issues so the voting public got to think about what could be done for children."

This is the first of the 'Tick For Kids' campaigns that will be touring schools throughout the country.
