Tough night for Cameron

The first fight of the League vs Rugby event was between Australian league star Sam Thaiday and Chiefs prop Ben Tameifuna.

Both fighters were making their boxing debuts and displayed good skills for novices.

Thaiday regularly picked up points that, in the end, gave him the win.

The next fight was between league toughman Paul Gallen and Chiefs' captain Liam Messam. Both fighters fought other opponents last year and came away as winners.

It was a fierce contest between the two fighters, but it was Paul Gallen who took the win after the three rounds.

In the main event, heavyweight Shane Cameron, on the comeback from cruiserweight, went against Brian Minto.

The 38-year-old veteran was in Cameron's face, producing double cuts to a fighter who has had a history of bleeding.

Minto had one point deducted in the fifth round for illegal use of an elbow and another point for a headbutt.

Cameron looked rusty. Despite returning to his more familiar weight division, he found it hard to land his jabs.

Minto scored a TKO when the fight was stopped in the seventh round and Cameron's corner conceded.

Cameron couldn't continue because of cuts over both eyes.

Just where Cameron goes to from here will remain to be seen.
