Transport NZ encourages road safety message

The importance of paying attention while driving is being highlighted as Road Safety Week gets underway.

Charity group, Brake, says a moment's distraction can have serious consequences, and cell phones pose one of the biggest dangers.

Caroline Perry says, “Eating or drinking at the wheel and smoking have also been proven to distract drivers and increase your risk of crashing.”

Road Safety Week is promoted by charity group, Brake, who co-ordinate events for road safety in communities, schools, clubs and companies, the core target being young drivers.

The nationwide message this week is clear from Transport NZ, "If you're driving, tune in to road safety and save lives."
