Tri Māori Sprint Series off to a good start

The TriMāori triathlon was held yesterday in Karāpiro, where more than 100 people from around the country came to compete in the third competition after starting in 2012.

The special event is known as the Sprint Series as it's half the distance of the Iron Māori festival. It includes a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run. There was also an option to just compete in the run.

Among those who happily crossed the line was Wiremu Bayliss. This was his first time he's done all three events as last year he took part in the swim and the run.

Last year Te Kāea followed him on his TriMāori journey, since last year he has lost 80kg.

This event for many competitors is the stepping-stone for the bigger Iron Māori event to be held later this year.
