Waikato boxer Cairo George eager for world title ranking

Climbing to the top of the world rankings is the focus for Waikato boxer Cairo George after recently lifting the IBO Asia-Pacific Welterweight title here in New Zealand.

The Hamilton based boxer now has his sights set firmly on the world title.

He's made history by being the first kiwi to lift an IBO boxing title on New Zealand soil.

He says "it's a dream come true to win the title. My whole boxing career has taken on a life of its own at the moment.  You know it's another stepping stone towards a world title for me."

With Cairo seriously ill only days out from the fight, his coach is totally blown away with the result.

At 24 years of age and from a well respected boxing family, Cairo has added the Asia-Pacific title to the New Zealand Boxing Federation Welterweight title.

His focus has now turned to fundraising to bring opposition to NZ to fight. He is also looking ahead to August where he will challenge for the World Youth Boxing Title.

Of Waikato descent, Cairo is the epitome of the famous Waikato saying that there is a taniwha at every bend of the river.
