Waikato-Tainui confirms new governing structure

By Te Ao Māori News

Waikato-Tainui Te Kauhanganui has confirmed the Marae Model as the tribe's new governing structure.

The decision follows a 20-month review of Waikato-Tainui governance and representation arrangements and a referendum held during October to identify the model preferred by tribal members.

Confirmation of the Marae Model aligns with the referendum results which saw 72% of voters opting for that model.

Te Kauhanganui chairperson Maxine Moana-Tuwhangai says the model will become operational when the rule changes associated with the new structure are finalised.
