Waikato-Tainui hosts 7th iwi games

The Waikato-Tainui Games are held every two years.  This year marks its seventh since it began in 2000, its purpose to bring iwi together.

Waka ama, bowls and tennis were some of the sports seen at the Waikato-Tainui Games.

A new game that was added at the last Waikato-Tainui Games is ki-o-rahi, which increased in numbers this year.

25 marae participated in this event, an increase from the last Waikato-Tainui Games.

There were also rules to ensure all age groups were actively involved, as every team had to have a child and an elder participating.

By the way teams played today, it showed just why the Waikato region produces top ki-o-rahi players.
