The National Waka Ama Championships 2015 kicked off today with the midget races and teams will continue to battle it out on Lake Karāpiro for the rest of the week for top placings in the tournament.
Hundreds converged on Karāpiro this morning to participate in the pōhiri and opening of the event and over the week supporters and paddlers are expected to line the shores of the lake.
Throughout the week Te Kāea will bring you in depth coverage of the event and the Māori Television website team will load delayed highlights of the races to www.maoritelevision.com daily for the duration of the competition.
