War veteran's pension should be reinstated says Winston Peters

Northland MP Winston Peters says War Veteran Selwyn Clarke's pension should be reinstated.

Peters says the law under which he was arrested for trespass following a protest at Kaitaia airport was highly questionable.

Selwyn Clarke was reduced to begging at the Kaitaia market after his veteran's pension and disability allowance were stopped in November last year.

The Ministry of Social Development says anyone receiving a Work and Income payment who is the subject of a warrant to arrest for a criminal offence needs to clear it as soon as possible or payments will be affected.

Ministry of Social Development spokesperson says, "Mr Clarke is in full control of his situation and knows what he needs to do to resume payments.  When he clears his warrant, we are happy to help and will resume payments."
